The Awen Project wants to transform education.

Watch our story so far…

The Awen Project is pioneering a new model for learning environments: where young people are championed to be themselves and follow their passions as active participants in a democratic community.

The Awen Project is pioneering a new model for learning environments: where young people are championed to be themselves and follow their passions as active participants in a democratic community. We work with families to co-construct small, free-to-attend learning communities, that are run by the students and have ethics of excellence, entrepreneurialism and deep creativity.

Following the most up to date research on how humans learn whilst allowing each Awen Learning Community to independently reflect the needs of its community, geography, and future job markets, we will build a large network of Tribes that will cross borders, sharing resources, staff, and learning opportunities, and supporting generations of young people to become healthy, informed, and responsible members of the global society to face a future that is going to require great things from them.

The Awen Project is;

  • Developing a new model of learning community that holds as its central concern the well-being and holistic needs of young people as individuals and as a community;

  • Co-creating learning communities that are creative, entrepreneurial, sustainable, democratic and independent, whilst always remaining small and free to attend;

  • Demonstrating that a learning community can be built by young people and self-financed through entrepreneurial ventures developed in part by the students in collaboration with the wider community;

  • Facilitating learning that is driven by passions and necessity, adaptable to technological and cultural changes, and personalised to the individual student, through which children and young people will feel a true sense of ownership over their learning;

  • Nurturing communities that are run democratically, allowing children the right to a genuinely powerful voice in decisions that effect them and their surroundings.

  • Financially and spiritually supporting the opening of new learning communities that will form part of our wider network and society.

What do our Awen parents think?

“Awen has helped my daughter have a better understanding of democracy through practicing it. It has helped her to listen to other people's perspectives while growing the confidence to think about and share her own. It has allowed her to be her wild natured, sensory seeking self. Awen is also helping her to understand that learning can happen outside of four walls and it is truly down to her to learn what she wants, when she wants, which is developing her intrinsic motivation and inside out approach to learning.”

“Our son has become more creative and enthusiastic about his learning whereas he was very switched off in school and scared of the discipline style and ethos.”

“Awen has provided an environment where my son can experiment, discuss, debate and learn without fear of failure. Giving him the power of choice in his education has lessened his stress and allowed him to develop his sense of self.”

We started back in 2019 with a dream…

“Awen really helps you. It helps you as a person to grow and find the best version of yourself. People listen to you! They don’t just listen, they understand, which is really valuable and I really care for this place and love everyone here.”

Our aim is…

To develop a new model of education that holds the well-being and needs of the individual child, their family, and their community as its central concern. Whilst building learning communities that are creative, entrepreneurial, sustainable, democratic and independent, whilst always remaining small and free to attend.

Our hope is…

To demonstrate that a learning community can be built and maintained by children and their families both physically and spiritually, and financed in part through entrepreneurial ventures developed by the students. Providing an education driven by passions and necessity, adaptable to technological and cultural changes, through which children and young people will feel a true sense of ownership over their learning;
